Dr. Ouellet neglected to mention that Euroean countries fully fund the education of whatever students qualify and wish to study medecine, a situation quite unlike that in Canada where capable students are forced in the thousands to go abroad to study medecine for lack of spaces in Cdn medical schools, and those able to find a spot in Canada have to borrow to pay 80% of the cost of their medical studies. Even worse, recent medical grads in Alberta are unable to find a job after having committed themselves financially to becoming doctors. If he's ready to follow the European model in terms of adequate gov't funding and access to plenty of jobs in hospitals, then I agree wholeheartedly with him. However, his self-interested behavior in looking to profit from the illness of his fellow Cdns seems out ot sync with the European approach where the common good is the goal.

Transfer/sale of Goldbar Waste treatment: for whose benefit?
All was functioning perfectly well at our treatment plant, so why its sale to Epcor at 1/10 of its replacement cost? Councillors Anderson and Hayter extolled its efficiency and environmental record, but added that the city was short of funds and didn't want to raise taxes; hence, the agreement to swap our public asset to Epcor in return for their providing
extra revenue to the city annually. In effect, the city has transferred its taxing power to Epcor in order to avoid citizen's ire at tax increases. The problem is, citizens will be paying for Epcor's profits, of which only 30% of profits from drainage will return to the city and 60% of water treatment profits will return to the city. While pipes are being built for sewage and water systems to be totally separate, 0% of sewage profits will go to the city. Considering that Epcor's rates are the same for all citizens, unlike city-levied taxes based on one's property assessment, the Epcor-raised city funds are a regressive/unfair tax.
In the meantime, the city has surrendered an asset worth $3/4B to Epcor, a big loss
