The following motion was passed at SALT on 20080326.
“That in SALT elections, the last meeting of each May, we elect four persons, two women and two men. Everyone writes on their ballots the names of four women and four men they wish to honour as the leaders of our group. The Telephone Tree, which acts as our Elections Committee, will make two lists of nominated candidates. List A will contain all nominated people alphabetically without tallies. List B, which will be confidential to the Election Committee, will list nominated candidates in order of the vote each candidate receives.
List A will be presented to the members in honour of all nominated candidates. Those candidates wishing their names removed for List A will then indicate that to the Chair, and the Elections Committee will strike their names from List B.
The Elections Committee will then announce from the amended List B the results of the election, indicating the person who has the most votes, who will be the Chair. The next highest vote registered for the candidate of the same gender as the Chair will be a Vice Chair. The next two leading vote getters of the opposite gender will also be Vice Chairs.
In the event of a tie for the top vote getters for Chair, a second vote will be held to choose the Chair from the tied candidates. At the conclusion of the election, a vote will be called for destroying the ballots.”
